One of the things that Changi Airports International (CAI) has come to realise is that the role of the airport has not been fully understood. To CAI, an airport is more like a city that connects the aviation ecosystem and economy to the wider community.
Optimistic of the future, CAI has used its decades of experience to give rise to GateEq (where Gate stands for ‘Global Aviation and Travel Ecosystem’ and Eq stands for ‘Equity’), akin to a conductor who orchestrates through the complexities of the aviation and travel industry.
The vision of GateEq is to create and develop an ecosystem of the perfect mix of key industry players for long term growth and more efficient travel.
A brainchild of a collaboration between Changi Airports International and iEDGE SGX, the iEDGE GateEq Global Aviation and Travel Index was borne by combining the competence and experience in the aviation and travel industry of Changi Airports and the long term expertise in index creation of SGX.
Asia’s leading and trusted market infrastructure, SGX facilitates the exchange of capital and ideas to create value and growth for people, businesses, and economies.
Providing a tailored and niche exposure to the aviation and travel industry equity growth by leveraging Changi’s in-depth knowledge of the industry.
iEdge-GateEq Aviation and Travel Index harnesses GateEq’s extensive in-house experience in the aviation industry to capture global aviation and travel-related growth. The index provides diversified exposure to 6 different global air travel drivers defined by GateEq.
Pure Equity is market capitalisation-weighted index that covers the top 50 listed companies in global travel and aviation industry, from a universe shortlisted by GateEq.
The iEdge-GateEq Balanced Index, created in collaboration with SGX Index Edge and GateEq, is a multi-asset, rule based, systematic index that provides exposure to the iEdge-GateEq Aviation and Travel Index, while controlling for volatility using underlying treasury futures indices. The index manages volatility through exposures to US, UK, and German treasury futures. Volatility control is implemented such that when the index volatility breaches a predefined threshold, it lowers the exposure of the portfolio, and vice-versa.
